If you have not taken the Unit 1: Rhetoric Test, please remember that you need to complete it by this Thursday (one week from the original date).

If you would like to take the test a second time to improve your grade, you can schedule a time as early as Tuesday of this week but must complete the retake by Tuesday, September 25.

A few notes about the retake:

  • You are not guaranteed to increase your score. Your grade for the test will be score you receive on the second try.
  • The notes for the unit are still available in the downloads section of the website.
  • You should consider reading the sample paragraph responses. Those will give you a sense of why your original answers did not receive as many points as they could have.

Your second essay of the year will be due on Sunday, September 23 at noon. You can download the prompt here.

Keep these requirements in mind as you write the essay:

  • Proofread your response before you submit it.
  • You can use either a concession or boomer structure, but be sure you follow the format (thesis and topic sentence) for whichever you choose.
  • You should include at least two naysayers.
  • Use the sub-topic strategy we discussed for Essay 1 to make your essay less repetive and more interesting.
  • Don’t use outside research! We’ll do some discussion in class, but you really need to work on not using outside sources to answer these arguments.

Please share your essay with me using Google Drive at dpogreba@gmail.com by the deadline.

Your first annotated bibliography entry is due Tuesday. I’d like it to include the full source citation and 150 words of useful information about the article you’ve chosen.
