O ME! O life!… of the questions of these recurring;
Of the endless trains of the faithless—of cities fill’d with the foolish;
Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?)
Of eyes that vainly crave the light—of the objects mean—of the struggle ever renew’d;
Of the poor results of all—of the plodding and sordid crowds I see around me;
Of the empty and useless years of the rest—with the rest me intertwined;
The question, O me! so sad, recurring—What good amid these, O me, O life?

Answer

That you are here—that life exists, and identity;
That the powerful play goes on, and you will contribute a verse.

The reading assignment for Monday will be due Tuesday, so that we can do project presentations in class on Monday. If you are writing an essay, please remember that it is due Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

It’s time to get some poetry practice going on. For this week, to make sure that everyone can use the system, let’s just comment on one poem. You can choose to either write a response to “Not Swans” or “The Cabbage.” The goal is to thoughtfully interact with the poem and with each other.

The poem discussion forum is located here, or you can get there by following the link in under the AP menu. You need to be logged into the site to make a comment.

If you are feeling very ambitious, you can start working on reading a poem a day. It builds character after all.

As you work on your revisions of the Stephen Dunn essays, you should take a look at these documents:
